City of Independence, City Council Elections 2013

The following is some information regarding the upcoming City of Independence election for Mayor and various council seats.

All City of Independence residents who are registered to vote here will vote for the Mayor and At-Large positions. If you live in a ward with a seat up for election such as 1st, 3rd, 4th, or 5th, you will also vote for a representative for your ward.

These are locations to vote the day of the election (November 5th):

1st Ward: Falcon Civic Center at 1305 5th Ave NE

2nd Ward: VFW at 128 3rd Ave NE

3rd Ward: Heartland Acres Agribition Center at 2600 Swan Lake Blvd

4th Ward: Senior Citizen Center at 400 5th Ave NE

5th Ward: First Presbyterian Church at 115 6th Ave NW

Early Voting

Registered voters can vote early at the Buchanan County Auditor’s office during the following hours:

Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 4:20pm.

Absentee Voting

The request form must be received in the county auditor’s office by 5 p.m. on the Friday before the election (November 1st).

If the request is received so late that is unlikely the absentee ballot can be returned by mail in time to be considered for counting, the county auditor will enclose a statement to that effect with the absentee ballot.
